For ventrilo info I would suggest using their website. Specifically the hosting page --> http://www.ventrilo.com/hosting.php

Select a country that would best suit your guild, then go through the companies and check out their offers.

As for TS im not sure..

If ur willing to donate as a guild you can jump on the GW-Vent server..

ip/hostname :: server.gw-vent.com
port :: 1337

With TS you can download the server software from their website and host it from your own computer. Though, a fast computer with a good connection is recommended. I host the server for our guild, and it doesn't draw much system resources at all. It is a little confusing to setup at first, so if you're not very computer literate I wouldn't recommend it.

I pay 10 bucks a month for a 50 man high quality vent server from.

www.Nrgservers.com

Ventrilo kicks TS's ass. Much better quality over all. The price may be a little different though if you're wanting a 50 man, becuase I got mine during a promotional time. I have been with this server company now for close to a year, and they give very good support, and never any down time.

No hosting company can charge to host TS unless they have a TS hosting license.. You can download the TS Server software, and host a private server yourself for free (Or use one such as GW Community TS - gwts.worldgamers.net:1234 - for free also)

the 'Free personal' server software for ventrilo, only lets you host a LOW QUALITY, 8 person MAX server, without paying..

Now, to (hopefully) end this TS vs Ventrilo Argument once and for all..

I Work for a hosting company, and we spent several months testing Team Speak and Ventrilo, and pitching them against each other..

taking EVERYTHING into account, Team Speak is the better choice overall..

Although some people say Vent is much better because its better quality... Hmm, Open your eyes people..

Its the same codec (Speex 26kb) Its just that Team Speak Pass it through a compressor, and a filter, so it uses Less bandwidth and CPU time both server, and client side, THAT is why it sounds a little muffled compared to vent..

Rumour has it that Team Speak will be releasing a new codec pack in the summer, based on the OGG codec (no idea if this is true or not)

Ventrilo Server (and client) uses More Bandwith, and more CPU than Team Speak ever has... Thus Team Speak has (generally) lower pings...

I have a Server in New York, I live in England, If I host a Ventrilo Server there, put 20 channels on it, and put 20 users on it, I'll be pinging about 120-130...

If I host a Team Speak server on it, with the same 20 channels, and the same 20 users, I only ping between 75 and 90..

Ventrilo has a MAX capacity of 400 users, per server... Team Speak has a max of around 999 per server.. (I have only ever seen 600 or so on one server)

Any ways, The easiest way is to read both websites FAQ's, and pricing information..

Umm as for teh codec it uses, vent offers a variety.
All of the servers i Admin on [Ausgamers(australian gaming community)] and a few clan servers all use the GSM 6.10 codec at one of teh 3 formats 11KHz, 16bit :: 22KHz, 16bit :: 44KHZ, 16bit

There is a distinct difference in quality, and compared to ALOT of the TS servers I have been on, I have yet to find a TS server that compares without alot of lag.

My ventrilo(2.3.2b3) uses 1% where as TS (rc1) uses 5% CPU

as for bandwidth i have never noticed, and have not tested connecting to a server that runs both to compare latency. But normally on the TS servers i get a ping of 400-500 and on vent i get 150-350 [yes i am australian connecting to american servers]

I have seen a Vent server with over 500 clients connected (no phantom users either)

As for hosting :: Getting a dedicated ventrilo host imho is a HELL of alot easier then getting one for TS.

skretth -- read the Ventrilo Documentation - the Ventrilo Server daemon can only support up to a maximum of 400 users, so no idea how you have seen one with over 500 clients connected...

I'd happily host anyone who wants it, a free Team Speak server, or just use the one I posted above...

I'd have to say a majority of the vent if not all of the vent servers I have been in use the GSM 6.10 codec, which IMO is alot better than speex, which I believe CS 1.6 servers use...For TS I have only had limited experience with them, and for my I like quality. IF something sounds better, that is the way I go. As for it taking more bandwidth, if you are on cable or dsl it really doesn't matter. Even though I have used ventrilo on lowest quality settings with 56k dial up. For memory use Vent takes up about 1,000-3,000 K while TS takes around 11,500 K. CPU Usages seems about even. Thats just my say on it.

I love how both sides of this conflict have every point to make claiming what they support is the better option; all along offering no solid evidence to back them up. None what-so-ever, just all talk.

I perfer TS.... i have had no major lag issues, hosted a few strike parties with ppl while guild was on (timing is everything).. over 30 ppl on TS, and 2 computers on GW all at same time though a cable connection... no real problems with speed or such...

Only problem i had was this... when you make a seperate channel, the quality of audio and such in that seperate channel does get alittle garbled... so if you do a strike party, you should run it in the primary channel...

But then again... could have been a setting i over looked...

Sorry i posted in all english, small words and straight forward... i dont know many of those $50 words... and am thinking this person asking is looking for a simple answer.....

If you REALLY want evidence, I can pull out the CPU useage logs for 6 months of trials and testing under windows 2000, 2003 server, Linux FreeBSD, Redhat and Debian, and show you that in ALL cases TS comes out on top for stability, Memory and bandwidth useage.....

it however, would mean me spending a few hours digging through my backup log files..

I am happy with my TS client side of it.I wouldn't mind knowing if you wanted to host a server for say 25 users can you do this on the same comp that you run a game on at the same time and does it have to be on 24/7 for others to use?

This has been pounded out before... basically it seems the people in the EU prefer Vent, prob cause its cheaper for them or something. But in most cases everyone pays something for it. TS however is free to use for NON PROFIT gaming clans. If you do anything for profit well, then your nailed... you have to pay either way. Actually it looks like vent has finally come around to allowing Non Profit use as well. Makes since they are both basically the same thing, so why would they cut their own throats?

This very argument has sparked an interest at arenanet in VoIP engineers, and an influx of recent ads for such talent. This leads me to believe that some day in the future both will be obsolete for GW at least. and I welcome it. Nothing more annoying then having a pug that most do not have the voice communication software of choice. and resort to typing everything and consequently being left out of key strategy efforts being conveyed by TS... In any case its obvious good teams need SOMETHING atm. so pick one and go. if you got a server to make use of, use TS, if not, use Vent services which are not too expensive. simple as that...

Yea I was meaning the majority of EU players in international dist seem to ask for vent.

http://www.goteamspeak.com/index.php?page=downloads is where to get a private server and client downloads.. Simply download both install them and off you go. start giving out your IP address as the TS connect info and you got yourself your own TS server for your guild... I normally do this with a separate computer to balance out the bandwidth requirements. The admin panel in TS is web accessible so you can tweak all the settings rather easily... Now obviously if your on dial-up. don't waste your time... But if you have a really good broadband connection, Download the server and install it, and off you go... Simple as that.
